Most homes are lit from one point in the ceiling. It's the cheapest way to light a room and the least flattering — flat, overhead, and the same at 8am as it is at 11pm. Move the light lower, spread it across a few points, and the same room becomes somewhere you want to sit.

That's what we sell at Exceptional Lightning: fittings that put light where people actually are.

What we stock

We carry lighting for every position in a room, not just the ceiling:

  • Table lamps for nightstands, desks, consoles and shelves
  • Floor lights for reading corners, sofa ends, and the corner every room leaves dark
  • Pendant lights for kitchen islands, dining tables, hallways and stairwells
  • Chandeliers for dining rooms, entryways and high-ceilinged landings
  • Wall sconces for bedsides, hallways, stairways and mirrors

Every listing carries the details that actually matter before you buy: materials and finish, full dimensions, bulb fitting and maximum wattage, drop or mounting height, and what's in the box. We'd rather tell you a fitting is 42 cm wide than tell you it's beautiful and let you find out.

How we work

Free shipping, everywhere we ship. Every order ships free within the United States, with no minimum purchase. We send with FedEx, UPS and DHL, and you get a tracking number as soon as your order goes out.

We pack seven days a week. Orders are prepared and handed to the carrier within 1–2 days of purchase, weekends included. Most orders arrive within 4–7 business days.

Returns are free and simple. You have 30 days from delivery. If an item isn't right, we send you a prepaid return label — no restocking fee, nothing deducted from your refund.

If something arrives damaged, that's on us. Send us photos and we'll replace it or refund you in full, and you won't pay return shipping.

Buying lighting, honestly

Lighting is one of the few things you buy for your home that has to be wired in, mounted, or matched to a bulb. So a few things we'd rather say up front than bury in a policy page:

Hardwired fittings — pendants, chandeliers, sconces — should be installed by a licensed electrician, and installation has to meet the National Electrical Code and your local codes. Never exceed the maximum wattage listed for a fitting. And unless a product is specifically rated for it, don't put it in a bathroom or outdoors.
